hi
sometimes i want to record a vid and cannot import it with downloadhelper so ithought of using a rectangle to record what is on the screen.

im noob
i dont want very large files . iwould like a freeware that i can have the video and audio but il poor quality(light to save space.

be freeware i mean not just a free trial.

i read abit about share x . do you know if i can choose the type of way to reacord to either end up with small or med or large file?

tx

Solution
that share x is a way to make still frame screenshots which is already built into windows. that is not designed to "record" a moving image from a specific part of the screen. don't think i have ever seen such a thing, but then i have never wanted to do it.

if download helper won't do it, then depending on the site in question, there may be a specific app that will grab from it. however this does assume you have the legal right to copy it. we can't help you with breaking the law by copying copyrighted material.

bit more context is needed to see if we can offer something to help or if we can even help you based on the content.

If you want browser extensions–either Loom or Vidyard have that option but if I remember correctly, the free plan has certain limits, not sure what tho.

If you own an iMac or Macbook, you can simply use Quiktime (built-in software).

Otherwise, I'd agree with Blackink, OBS is the best option out there.

What he means is setting the encoder quality to 25 (x264 can used fixed bitrate, average bitrate, variable bitrate and quality based encoding) This is how it looks in OBS, other programs will look different, but the options should be there as well.

What framerate you use completely depends on what you need. Higher framerate will need more data for the same perceived quality. OBS can also scale the image down, which would reduce file size but at the cost of quality.

And yes, you can set it to only record part of the screen or specific windows.

In OBS you need fast encoding, while programs like Avidemux can be configured to use more time to encode but also give better result (smaller file and less visible artifacts). Therefore, bu using Avidemux afterwards will probably reduce the file size quite a bit.

HI does avidemux have a free version (not just a trial) and can it output to mp4?
Free and open source (says here) 😎 👍
