If you align the board's stand off holes

and the case's standoff points

Then you'll see that after the board is installed, the rubber grommets to the right will all be covered except for half an inch. A work around to that is to possibly route cables first before you mount the board but yes you can mod the case in fact the case is made from thin sheet steel and should be easy to work with.

You could look at the Fractal Define R5 or even a case by Caselabs' Magnum since you're liking the X71's design so much.
