Hi All..

Yeah that's right?? I see ECC PC133 type ram.. and just PC133 type ram. I mean what's the difference between them? I kindda guess ECC PC133 RAMs are better because they cost more but what does ECC actually mean?

Are ECC RAM CLS2? and the normal PC133 CLS3?

Any help will be appreciated.

Thank you,

Mike

ECC means Error Correction Code. This checks all the info running through the memory modules and looks for errors. if it finds any it fixes them. It's only used in Servers, so don't worry about it. Get the normal PC133

About the CAS ratings, not necessarily. You can get CAS2 PC133 (non-ECC) quite easily, but at a premium of course.

and actually ECC will give you a performance hit..albeit minor..the error checking takes time. So if you are not running a system that needs be senstive to data errors and/or crashes from data errors, don't use it.

Agreed, definately don't buy it if you don't absolutly need it. It costs alot more and affects performance slightly.
