Hi guys, I was given 64gb of ddr4 ECC ram from my friend as he didn't need it, I am building my pc soon but i am waiting for my psu and case to arrive. My motherboard and Cpu both support ECC ram but I am wondering is it safe to turn on docp with this ecc ram as the 2400mhz speed is a little slow, would i just be better off buying some normal ram for gaming or do you think this is ok? Appreciate any help

I have gamed with ECC memory in workstation class rigs in the past with excellent results. Try your free memory and then decide. 64GB of free memory, if compatible with your components, is quite a savings.
thank you man, nice to hear someone else has, I cant find anyhwhere online where someone has. Could i oc it with docp?

Maybe. Try it and see, your mileage may vary.

I personally don't recommend OCing memory. The gains achieved are usually minor compared to the potential instability you introduce to your system's performance.

Many members here on Tom's have gamed with workstation class rigs.

What are the specs (make/model of all components) of the system you are putting together?

its my first build but its not really for heavy gaming, im a music producer so just needed something more steady. I also play a lot of Rust though, so I will play that for sure.

Case : NZXT H510
PSU : Aerocool integrator 650w 80+ bronze
Cpu : Ryzen 5 2600
Gpu : Gtx 1060 3gb
Memory : 64gb of ddr4 2400mhz micron ram
storage : Intel dc p3520 2tb ssd
Mobo : Asus tuf b450m plus gaming
then just some random aesthetic stuff such as lights and a cooler

Unless the board specifically says it will work with ECC Registered, the memory will not work. I don't think I've never seen a consumer board support ECC Registered.

The good thing is that ram is worth a chunk to server people, so you should be able to sell it off and buy whatever 64GB consumer kit you want. :)
