Ecc ram paired with non ecc ram

Hello, I'm considering to buy ram stick of 8gb ddr2 but it's ecc and i have 2 gb of non ecc ram in my system.Can i pair them?
P.S. dont ask why I'm not happy with 8gb,thats because my ram slots on mb can handle only 4 gb on each slot,and i think its gonna read it as 4 gb

No, they do not mix. Also even iof you want to use the ecc by itself to need to make sure the motherboard and cpu support it or it won't work at all.
