I have an old Biostar A880G+ Ver 6.x motherboard that seems to allow the use of ECC memory as per the BIOS setup manual. Does that mean I can buy less expensive ECC server RAM for the board? If not what is this ECC RAM I should be looking for?
Some boards supported ECC, but it'd have to be unregistered/unbuffered, which aren't as inexpensive as fully registered server sticks. I have a GA-890FXA-UD5 with a few functional ECC sticks.
If the manual explicitly says ECC not supported then it may be a toss-up however.
I'm an idiot I linked to the wrong board. Too many old boards laying around. I apologize. The ancient board in question is actually a MSI GTM -E45
Page 35 and 36 of the manual show what I see in BIOS.
