Edge sites pinned to task bar don't activate the website icon.
I have the Fall Creators Update, and was looking forward to being able to pin websites to the taskbar with Edge.
When I do this with I.E., and then I use the taskbar shortcut, the shortcut icon is activated. With a website pinned from Edge, once I click the taskbar shortcut, the Edge icon is activated, and not my shortcut.
Am I doing something wrong, or does it just not work correctly?

Hello karlak57

Can you please check and confirm if you used the Correct Method to Pin the Sites to the Taskbar?

You may also want to try the following:

> Type Internet Options in the Cortana search box.

> Go the Internet Options box.

> Go to the Advanced tab.

> Click the Restore advanced settings and Reset buttons to reset the Internet configuration back to default.

> Click OK to save the changes and try opening the web pages from their pinned icons in the taskbar.

Hope this helps.

Cheers!!

Oh, the icon "works" in that it opens the web page properly. However, when you look at the taskbar while the page is open, it's the Edge icon that looks like it's in use, not the pinned page icon. And if I click again on the pinned page icon, another tab opens, rather than activating the window for the page I already opened.

Also, if I already have Edge open (may or may not be minimized) and I try to open my pinned page, it adds another tab to the most recently opened Edge session, rather than creating a new Edge window.

In contrast, when you pin a page to the taskbar with I.E. it behaves like any other program's icon that is pinned. Chrome works the same way as I.E. I want Edge to work like I.E. & Chrome when I'm using the pinned pages, and I wonder whether there is some other setting that I am missing.

And I did try the reset you suggested, but it made no difference.

Hello again

Apologies for the late response.

Looks like Microsoft Edge is designed that way.

When you click the pinned page in the taskbar, it's Microsoft Edge that opens up and that makes sense if the Edge's icon shows active. This is because the pinned icon is merely a shortcut that tells Windows to open Edge when it's clicked.

If you have already opened the pinned web page in Edge and click the pinned icon again, Edge does nothing. On the other hand, if you have the pinned page opened and you are on a different tab while using Edge, and then you click the pinned icon again, Edge takes you to the tab where the pinned web page is opened.

Likewise, if you haven't opened the pinned page and are working on a different page on Edge, and now when you click the pinned icon, Edge opens the web site in a different tab.

Hope this clears things a bit.

Cheers!! :)
