Edit config files

I recently installed debian and i am tring to edit a config file for a honeypot, but its opening in read only mode. i am using gedit to open the file. Im new to linux and was hoping someone could point out what i am missing. what i would like to do is open a .conf file and make changes.

i figured it out, used gksu to open the file with more permission.
