Editing a HD attached USB to my Asus RT-AC88u

I'm able to have my media devices/servers "see" the drive and play the movies I've got, but how do I edit to add more or change the files to delete or edit etc? I can access the drive and view the files but not edit them. Do I have to take it to my PC and do it from there or what?

I'm sorry, I wasn't clear. I dont want to edit the file. I want to add new files, maybe delete old ones etc. Functionality such as I would have using windows explorer on any other drive.
