Over the years I have acquired quite a bit of different software files. I like to hold on to around four versions of the same software just in case something is drastically changed (i.e. handbrake 10.2 and later). What would be the best way to organize and store such files? I currently have about 450 GBs of software on my laptop. I'd like to keep them readily accessible in cases where I may need to repair/reinstall someones software on the go. Side question is there a piece of software that could pull metadata for the software files?

I use 3 x 1TB external hard drives to store my extensive collection of commercial & freeware applications (I use 3 drives so that I've always got two backups when one drive fails since I don't save any of my stuff on my PC's internal HDD (doing so would make internal HDD image creation and recovery take way too long).

Can't help with the metadata question.

So I was previously storing them on my NAS box but certain programs it wouldn't let me delete from there because the NAS was using some of their files some how
