I didn't get any traction on my question so I'll rephrase and add more info,

I have the following: ASUS B550 with Ryzen 3600, 32GB RAM, Ryzen 3600 @ 4GHz, RTX 3060 12GB OC. Details: https://valid.x86.fr/wz1krt
I figure my CPU is lower end but doesn't appear to hold me back at the moment.

I'm considering getting a laptop or ultrabook and an egpu to allow remote gaming and more versatility. I understand there is apparently a 10-15% graphics performance loss which I guess would be okay.
This would perhaps lend itself to a laptop build that's also a gaming build at home.

Is anyone doing this and if so what are your experiences?

Generally, a laptop + eGPU is a way of turning a poorly performing lapto p into a poorly performing desktop.
I guess it's definitely be a downgrade for my desktop, but could I get away with a reasonably cheap laptop and making an okay gaming system.... obviously the desktop is gonna be the best performer.
Is there anyone doing this?

Many people have attached a regular GPU to a laptop, via the whole eGPU thing.

It never rarely works out better than a regular desktop.
I'm not expecting a desktop experience on a laptop.

You'd have to get a laptop with a Thunderbolt 3 port and that tends to be a higher end feature.
Sure I could look into buying one of those, my ASUS ROG B550-E has a Thunderbolt header that can support a ThunderboltEX 3-TR card so I guess that might be okay.

I'm just a little confused here. What's the actual use scenario? You already have the desktop; what's the upside to spending more to turn a laptop into desktop that's inferior to the one you have now?

There aren't a lot of scenarios that make a lick of sense outside of when one already has the laptop and no desktop. How many places would you actually use a laptop and lug the whole eGPU setup around to that basically has a desk for you to lay everything out and outlet access? It's not like you're going to do this in the park or riding the subway.

If you explained why for any of this, we could supply more help.
