I'm going to buy a new CPU soon and I'm confused on which I should get. I have no budget (within reason). I also know the motherboards that go with each.

My uses are:
Gaming
Small-amount of photo editing.
Rare 3D rendering.
Video encoding.

My musts are:
Support for more than 4 cores.
Overclockable.
Fast.
It doesn't get so hot that I could cook dinner on it.

I'm looking at the 8350, 3770k and the 8320. I say AMD because of the potential upgrading later.

Bioshock Infinite...
Well the i7 has only 4 physical cores and the 6 and 8 core models are extremely expensive (500 and 1000 or so). AMD's steamroller line is just around the corner so that upgrade path is definitely nice to look forward to. If you don't plan on upgrading soon after it comes out then definitely go with the 8350.

if you want to go with the steamroller right away then the 6350 is just 139.00 and is pretty close to the 8350 in most games.

and just make sure that you go with the 990fx chipset motherboards for amd if you want to overclock. most 970 can't do very well on over clocking due to the vrms not being able to handle the increased power.

edit:
As far as heat goes, any cpu will need a good aftermarket cooler to keep cool while overclocking. Also, the i7 is better for gaming, not by a whole lot in most games but still, it is better.

Ok, strictly because you're doing quite a bit of heavily threaded stuff, particularly video encoding and 3D modeling.

I would say go with AMD...if you have no budget within reason...here's a build I would suggest:

You could go with a standard GHz edition 7970 instead of the Toxic and save about $100 if you wanted...you could also cut back on the SSD to 120 GB if you wanted and cut costs by another $80 or so too.

For what you list, I'd go 3570K or 4670K, both beat the 8350 hands down and if past performance is any indication from the Dull Dozer and the VileDrive then then Steambowler will prob fit in just behind the 4670K....I know, AMD says different, but the 8159 was (according to AMD) wipe the 2599K and even challenge the 2600K) they also said the 8350 would take the 3570K with no problem, and it (head to head) was basically on a par with the 2500K of the previous generation (except in video rendering)....and with the new AMD based on the same architecture as VileDriver, don't look for any stronger DRAM support, (they may get to touching 2 sticks of 2133)

Sources? You're exaggerating so much it isn't funny...and if you're talking about 4th Gen E series, that won't be out until after IB-E, which isn't out yet either...they're still selling X79 MBs and SB-E CPUs with not a word about IB-E yet.

So..."about to release an 8 core" really means it's at least 12-18 months away...by that time who knows where everything will be...?

I think I'll go with AMD. I've never been the biggest fan of them, but for the value, it can't really be beaten, plus it can overclock, since I already have an H100. 5 GHz here I come lol.

you sure love to exaggerate huh? tell me, does intel pay you for this or are you just that much of a fan boy?

If track record prevails it will come up to par with the 3570K and slightly behind the 4670K, and will be almost immediately followed by Broadwell - this is a never ending cycle I really wish AMD would break, but StreamBowler is based on the same tech as was 8350 and the 8150

If you look at everything he commented it's so clear he is just a big fanboy
