Elder Scrolls Online (Australian)

Hi Everyone,

I used to play WoW on a gaming laptop many years ago and am hoping to get back into gaming again. Unfortunately I don't understand all the tech and its a very daunting task trying to work out what to get.

Im interested in playing Elder Scrolls Online when it comes out and I'd like to buy a gaming laptop to run it properly.

I've been quoted an Lenovo ThinkPad Edge E540 Laptop with Discrete Graphics.
It comes with Nvidia GeForce GT 740M Graphics with 2GB VRAM for around $850.00 is this good or should I be looking at a different brand? I don't want to go overboard with price

Im not an expert with computers, i'd like to share with you what i have learned from personal experience, and plenty of research.
Whether that laptop is a good deal I cannot say, because I dont know, but Id like to advise you, so hopefully you make an informed purchase.

First of all ill say something that isnt really what you're asking for.. But i still feel that it is useful advice. If you want gaming performance then i definitely recommend building your own PC. It is easy to do. (I built mine in a day, and it was my first time doing so,and the best decision I have made with regards to computers!) it will cost you half as much as it would for a pre built PC, and even more for a gaming laptop. If you dont want to build one then possibly buy a prebuilt PC. PC's are better for gaming because they are more easily upgraded, thus saving you money. (you also get more bang for your buck in terms of performance with desktop PC's)

Secondly, if you have your mind set on a laptop. According to reviews that graphics card will run games on medium to high, you also want to keep in mind how good the CPU is, and how much RAM the system has. try and aim for a cpu with quad cores and decent speed (Ghz). and about 8GB of RAM. For that price range i think that graphics card is decent. (But do keep in mind the rest of the spec, a slow CPU will slow your gaming down too, especially MMO's) but to be honest for that price range, a laptop may run ESO but on medium settings at best I would think.

Again, ill just point out that for that money you could build yourself a PC which is astronomically better than any laptop you can buy for that amount.

Keep in mind that Elder scrolls online is a new game, it has quite alot of bugs, but specifically, even people with high end systems are having performance issues with it. (These should be fixed soon enough though)
