I just assembled a new computer and everything is fine. However, I noticed that when I turned off my computer including the switch of my powersupply "SilverStone Strider Essential 500w", I noticed that there is a continuous weak ground/electric shock when I touch the four side screws of the powersupply at the back. But when the computer is open, it'll be gone and everything is fine.

I would like to know if it's normal or bad? so that can return it to the shop. Also, will it damage my computer parts?

To be honest if you live in the uk.

And for example you turn your power supply off at the back, or even at the switch on the wall socket.
If you get what seems to you like an electric shock. it is in fact the complete opposite.

It is in fact the static charge build up in your own body jumping to ground since the power supply, and the computer chassis is always grounded, and electric charge stored in any capacity will always use the path of least resistance to reach ground.

So to you what seems like the power supply giving you an electric shock is in fact the charge in your body dissipating to ground.

Causes are socks on nylon based carpets or wearing clothes, made of high nylon content such as tracksuit bottoms.
And also clothes with a high polyester content such as shirts.

Solution: Build your pc naked

To your problem, it sounds like a grounding issue to me too as others have mentioned.

Hi QuickZilver I have the same continuous buzz that I can feel on my hand on numerous devices in my house. I had it tested and my earth cable has around 20V of power in it. I asked if this is OK and so far every electrician said yes.
If I dont wear shoes my microwave gives me a slight shock, come to think of it I also remember my PSU cover I think also does the same.

I recon seek professional help, because if you don know what is wrong you could die quite easily.

Hope this helps,
Gabor

I see, so should i return the PSU to the store? Also, will it damage my computer parts even there is no ground/electric shock when the computer is on?

I live in the Philippines.

I've checked the wirings and i think everything is fine. However, i didn't fully removed it. As for, checking if the PSU is well grounded and the outlets in our house, how could I do that?

I tried plugging in the computer on other outlets but it's the same. I'm getting the weak ground/electric shock.

I see. So you think it's normal? thanks for your thoughts.

Haha lols.

So it's normal for you I see. Is it bad for my computer parts even if it only happens when my computer is off?

Thanks Gabor, however, I only experience this when touching my PSU when it's off. But when it's on, it's completely fine. Haha more worried for my computer parts than me being shocked. XD

Uhmm no if i only touch the pc case, however, when i touch the back screws of the psu and pc case, i get grounded/electric shock.
