Today I found out that some piece of hardware was making a popping sound. I found out right now that it was my desktop plug that was connected to my surge protector. Whenever I turn my PC on, there would be electrical popping sounds coming from the plug. I just build this computer 3 months ago and it's been working marvelously, but not anymore. Could it be my PSU, I have a corsair CX 600, or could it be my surge protector. The sound goes away when I turn off the computer, so I suspect its the PC. Could it be coil whine? I'm not sure what coil-whine or arching sounds like so I'm not sure what the problem is.

Solution
Alright, next try another cable between your psu and the wall, as surprisingly that can actually be the problem. You may have some laying around, or you can find one powering a fat ps3, tv/monitor, etc. If it still makes the sound, your psu is probably shorted out inside. Is it very loud? It could be coil whine I guess. If its loud, you should replace your psu before it causes potential damage to sensitive components. Knowing Corsair, they will do their best to set you up with a new one should this be the case, so don't worry.

Its not awfully loud, if I kneel down next to my computer I can hear it, or if it's really quiet in my room. I didn't notice it until last night when I went to unplug my ethernet cord from my desktop.
