Hi, i have a simple question about how much electricity a keyboard and mouse uses when plugged into my desktop computer. I own two sets of keyboards and mouses. one is a standard everyday set and the other is meant for gaming. One mouse is 1200 dpi while the other is up to 16000 dpi meant for mmo gaming. The gaming set of keyboard and mouse have led lights so i not sure if that uses more electricity. How much does each of my keyboard and mouse use electricity wise when plugged into my desktop. I am trying to save of power while using the most efficient keyboard and mouse set.

A USB port provides 100mA@5V or up to 500mA@5V for devices that are using it for power. Your normal mouse and keyboard tend to be of the 100mA@5V variety of USB device so they will draw a max power of 0.5W, high powered ones will be in the second group and draw up to 2.5W.

If you are trying to save power here's my suggestion, go unplug your microwave, the clock on it uses more power than all the cooking you will do with it over the course of a year, you lose more power int he places you aren't looking.

Maximum of up to 500mA at 5V so up to about 2.5W of power or 5W for both max. Both my keyboard (cheapo basic logitech) and mouse (G500) use around 100mA (100mA and 98mA) according to Windows power tab displayed under USB root hub devices in the device manager meaning they take up a little under 1W of power together. Easy to find out for me considering they are the only powered USB devices I have connected to my PC atm.
