The age old question has always been, how long will UO last ? EA made some
real
bad management decisions that cost the company millions of dollars. The
failure of
Sims Online, and they trashed two games that were in development, UO2, and
UXO
just recently.

When EA just releases an expansion less then one month ago, the sales
expectations were
obviously not met when already they are offering a free month trial.

Ice lady is right. UO is dying before our very eyes.

The new trial is the old AOS trial from last year (That's what the download
link points to). This is more of a "All you people who left, come see *SOME*
of what you're missing (Sorry, you still won't be able to go to the new
lands, or craft new items, or fight new monsters from SE)"

They have always offered a free month with every exspansion that has come
out for a new account including the first one. *points to words on box*. see
it says it right there! Now I agree that they perhaps have not made the best
decisions in some of the things they have done, but I see a strong future
for my second home. EA posted revenues of $2.96 billion for fiscal 2004.
So if UO with 150,000 subscribers at 9.99 a month, and yes I know it is
12.99 but if I put it you would argue that some pay by the 6 month plan,
gives EA a cool 1.5 ( 1,498,500 ) million earning a month. With that kinda
permanant income we ain't going nowhere. It is those buy, play, and finish
games that they have to keep pumping out that they are going to lose on and
those games that they create that does not quite capture the enviroment of
UO and it's community. We are bread and butter or cake and icing however you
view it.*grins*

The problem with that theory is... They aren't offering a free trial.

wow is everyone in this group this dumb?

Definition of trial, 1 : a tryout or experiment to test quality, value, or
usefulness

Definition of free, 1: without charge

So put those two words together. When UO asks old players who cancelled to
come online FREE OF CHARGE with the return to brittania banner and one month
of free gaming. what do you call it?

No, everyone but you can see the difference between a 'free trial',
which almost always is aimed at new people, and an invitation for
older users to revisit the game.

No, what you are looking for is the word 'Free Trial' and basing it off that
only.

Have you looked up the word TRIAL yet off the English Dictionary? Because
what you are doing now is making up your own definition.

Slow down on the UO playing and goto the library.

A nearly microscopic insect that burrows into the skin. They create welts
like mosquito bites except they last longer. Found throughout the
southern US. Walk through overgrown grassy areas to get them, I think.

I seem to have an immunity to them. Not to mosquitos though. Or spiders
that like to bite me on the back of my arm while I'm sleeping. Bad luck
to kill spiders my ass. 😉

Allowing old players to try the game out again is a sign that the game is
dying? They have done this at least 3 times in the last couple years. I
believe the most recent was during Phase 3 of housing decay, and the time
before that was soon after AoS launch. This time they are just letting people
log into their accounts...the last couple times they were just giving out 15 or
30 day gametime codes. Guess they wisened up...I know I liked getting a free
gametime code for each inactive account I had at the time.

We have "bvgs" here in the woods of Tennessee that I have never seen before
in my life. This land has not been lvmbered since the mid 1800's, so the trees
are really big. Everyone in the area has 10 acres or more, so hovses are far
apart and the trees are thick. I opened my mail box last svmmer to find 4
pvrple prehistoric looking little monsters on my mail. We have every kind of
spider, inclvding the black widow, reclvse, and the really vgly one the
wolf spider. The wolf spider carries its yovng arovnd on its body, so if yov
kill one hvndreds of little ones rvn in every direction.

I have my yard and fovndation sprayed for bvgs once a month to keep the
dogs from bringing flees, ticks, ciggers, and who knows what back into the
hovse with them.

I HATE BUGS, bvt not enovgh to give vp the qvite privacy of living ovt like
this. I had a white tail dear in the yard yesterday. The raccoon come vp on
the deck in the evening to eat the bird seed. The bright yellow finch winter
here becavse I feed them all winter. Hvmming birds pick on the window in
the svmmer, when I forget to fill their feeder. I have cataloged over 100
different kinds of birds that have come to feed at the bird feeder in the
last 5 years. I have to go ovt with my dogs in the evening and night, becavse
we have a big white owl that hangs arovnd. Its big enovgh to pick vp a
small animal, so I do not take a chance.

Every winter, I say I want to move, becavse we can get snowed in for vp
to two weeks at a time. Then spring comes, and I know why I say here.
Ciggers, ticks, spiders and all.

Wow!
I can't tell my wife abovt yovr place or she'll be bvgging me to look for a
place arovnd there! 😛
Sovnds like a dream home to me as well. The bad part is that my job is oil

leaks by finding them and controlling them qvickly). So I'm kinda stvck in
the fovr corners area where me and my work are known. Still there ARE lots
of cool things arovnd here. At most in a 2 hovr drive yov can do jvst abovt
anything that doesn't reqvire an ocean. Still yov got a NICE setvp there!

To add to that, we are at the top of a hill (highest point in the county, but
you cant see anything because of all the bit trees). We are only 8 miles
from a major shopping mall, and only 18 miles from downtown Nashville.

I have lived in a lot of different places in the US, Europe, and the mid-east,
and I know of no other place where you can live out in the woods like this
and still be this close to a major city of over 1.2 mil people. According to
the last census Nashville had 1,288,051 people. There is only a 2.6 percent
unemployment rate in Nashville. Anyone that "wants" to work, can find a
job. Good roads, poor "public" schools, and no State Taxes.

If you come to TN, just make sure you do not stop before you get East of
Memphis. West TN is not that good, IMHO. If you come from extreme
East or West, its a drastic cultural adjustment. Clerks in stores actually
smile and thank you for your business. People on the street make eye contact,
and say hello to strangers. Just don't try to tell them how to do things
with your "yank" accent, or you will be told which way is out of town. hehe
When we got snowed in for two weeks last winter, the owner of the little
country store (with a 4X4 truck) delivered groceries and cigs, and put it
on a tab until the snow melted.

Oh ya, be sure to pick up a "Southern dictionary", because just like going
into New Jersey, you will think you just drove into a foreign country.

My daughter tells me, I now have a Southern accent, but people around here
still tell me I sound like a "yank".............. 😛

All in all, its a nice place to live, but then it has not started snowing yet.
*grin* Did I say "I HATE SNOW" and BUGS....................

Seattle, Tacoma or Portland for 3. Area's near Atlanta. Though
Jacksonville FL is only at .7 mill, it's certainly a major city...
And you can easily live in the circumstances you state.

And that's just the cities I've been in over the last five years.

I do not know about Seattle, Tacoma or Portland. I have not spent that
much time up there. In and out on business is all. (I would hate that much
rain).
Not true about Atlanta. I know that area. You cant get this "private"
this close to downtown, or a major shopping center. As for Jacksonville
FL, well, you cant find a hill this high anyplace in FL, or this many trees.
You may find the land, but not the feeling of seclusion that the hill and
trees give. FL is FLAT. That is why hurricane winds can get as far inland
as Orlando.
I thought of Colorado Springs, but then there are not very many trees that I
saw. The city is high up, but its on a flat barren plato. You can get out in
the "country" around Tulsa OK, ( a city with 3.9 mil people, but finding a hill
and trees in Ok is almost as hard to find as finding them in FL.

As large as the US is, and as diverse as the country is, I am sure there is
someplace where you can find this kind of privacy, and still live close to
a major metropolitan city, I have not found it.

Um, I don't know how to break this to you; but you are utterly wrong.
I get the same feeling of seclusion at my uncles on the St. Johns, and
at another uncles down near Keystone Heights, (both are deep within a
belt of trees). Heck, you can get the same sense of seclusion well
within the boundaries of the city if you live in the area between Ft.
Caroline and Mayport.

<laughs> You can get hurricane winds as far inland is Raleigh NC,
which is a) not flat and b) much further inland than Orlando.
(Orlando in fact is much less effected by hurricanes than the coastal
areas. This year was an abberation.)

You haven't found it because you don't believe it exists.
