The use of the word "truth" disturbs me -- especially given all the drama with Twitter. I assume Elon intends to create AI to replace fact checkers. Good idea on paper because of a machine's ability to be unemotional. However, the biases of developers and managers will inevitably affect the AI. That and I don't think truth is necessarily the same for everyone on every subject.

"truth" anything with Musk behind it is a a joke.

their understanding of truth is what they want to see.
But isn't this true for all of us, more or less? :)
Of course, you do have a point, they will probably be pushing THEIR truth as THE truth (which, pretty much, has been the norm for milleniums, and the advent of the internet amplified it to "infinity and beyond").

"FactGPT" would be a somewhat less controversial name, I guess. As in, "all we want are the facts, ma’am", no extra sauce. Not that it would mean anything, really. A name is just a name.
I'm curious to see it in action, though, if they ever implement it.

Gates hasn't worked at Microsoft for almost 10 years.

different in most people accept truth when solid backing of claim not just group mentality on something. (why most people can change their views when given evidence to counter their former understanding of something)

Musk's truth is far from real truth as we have seen during & leading up to his twitter ownership.

Gates recently purchased $9 billion of MS stock.
which will payout big time for him.

idk how people seem to think just because multiple options 1 is instantly bad choice. (when you dont even know how viable/when/IF new one will be comparable)

Stock, especially in MS, is much more than any machine learning...server/cloud, games (via pc & XB), etc etc.

but somehow ppl think another rival to chatgpt (which isnt even gonna happen over night) is making it a bad investment?
thats just crazy.

I don't have a problem with AI being involved in non social media endeavors.

Gates recently purchased $9 billion of MS stock.
As far as I can tell, that purchase was on behalf of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation; it wasn't his personal money/investment (although he probably owns a decent chunk of MSFT personally as well).

MS is going all in.

Microsoft makes and spends hundreds of billions of $ a year. They're making a significant investment in AI, but I'd hardly call it "all in".

Everyone tried to make an AI chip, back then. Alibaba, Facebook, and Amazon, too. I think they all got jelly of Google's TPUs. And Facebook is the one who founded OCP (Open Compute Project), specifically so they didn't have to be in the hardware business!

Assuming he's successful, then Elon is 100% going to pull the plug on this thing, when it starts telling him some truths he doesn't like.

Yeah I can kind of see it now. Musk announces he succeeded in creating an AI for truthGPT on stage at some tech-con (pun intended)...

"Hey TruthGPT tell me a little about the CEO of Tesla and the owner of Twitter?", Musk says triumphantly.

"Elon Musk is the CEO of Tesla and owner of Twitter also known as the chief twit. He also makes space ships, gave his most recent child a weird name and is generally a Tool most of the tech community is to embarrassed to claim as one of their own." responds TruthGPT.

Musk smiles awkwardly much like when the cyber truck window broke on stage and says, "Apparently we still have some work to do." He quickly walks off stage and instantly cancels the project for being too honest.

Ah!! So this is how God is born! Wait till TruthAI is in it's mid teens, it's going to be wild.

I also get frustrated with how PC all the other AIs are. You know they could offer opinions, but they are programmed not to.
