Emachines slim case CPU & Video card with 220W PSU

I own a EL1352 slim case. I acquired Athlon II X2 260 Regor CPU (60W) and a GT 430 Video card (50W) along with a PSU that did not fit. I decided to try the install without the upgraded PSU. The OEM PSU is 220W. I did the CPU first and all went well so I decided to try the Video card and again all went OK. I will continue to hunt for a PSU that will fit without modifying the case BUT what risks am I under running the system with the 220 W PSU?
Also if anyone knows of a PSU that will bolt in to this chassis I would like to hear as I have done a bit of searching with no luck

Running a PSU near its limits will increase the amount of heat generated within the power supply which will accelerate the degradation of electronic components within the PSU leading to its premature failure.

You'll have to fabricate your own adapter plate if you use one of the following Flex ATX form factor PSUs. They probably won't be as quiet as your current 220W OEM PSU though.

OK So get out the Dremel or sheet metal nibbler and some shimming material?

One customer's comment when using the Flex ATX PSU:
Pros: I bought this to upgrade the PSU of a Gateway SX2800-01 (like an Acer Aspire X3812). There's no direct replacement for their 220W proprietary PSU made by either Lite-On or Delta. But this guy works just fine if you have fabricate a sheet metal adapter plate to line up the mounting screws without doing case mods. Search on ebaay for sellers of aftermarket 250W PSUs for Gateway to see pictures of this plate. You can get the metal plate from Home Depot and cut, drill, tap as needed. Pop rivet it onto the Mini ITX PSU. It's not as quiet as original, but you will be much happier than with an Athena one noise wise.

Black paint treatment is a nice touch.

Cons: None really.

Other Thoughts: An alternative to making the adapter mounting plate is to just transfer the guys of this PSU into the OEM one. I elected not to do this to not void the warranty but it is another option.

OK I bought a kill a watt meter and plugged it in the 1352 with the upgrades BUT still using the OEM 220W PSU. The meter is reading a range of 50-70 watts!! I don't game or open multiple windows ext. I just wanted to edit GoPro video using W Live movie maker. I am tempted to return the 400W PSU?

You need to place the CPU and the GPU under load to get an accurate measure of the power consumption.

The idle power reading is meaningless.

You should be able to determine the absolute maximum power that the system will ever require by running Prime95 and FurMark simultaneously to load both the CPU and GPU to their maximum power draw.

Your power supply needs to be able to handle the maximum otherwise you may run into instability problems.

I ran both Prime95 & Furmark together for a wattage reading of 160W
I also ran separately
Furmark 121W
Prime95 105W
I guess I am OK with the 220W OEM PSU?

It appears you should be fine with the original OEM PSU.
