Empty Folders named with strange characters

My Toshiba Satellite laptop creates empty folders several times a day and names them with what appear to be Chinese or Korean or Japanese characters. Any idea what these are?

Where are the files on your PC with the odd names? I'd suggest a full virus scan and malware scan, if you dont have any anti-malware program, use Malwarebytes, they have a free version, and they're by FAR the best product for malware cleanup on the market. https://www.malwarebytes.org/

I am also having this occur (also on a Toshiba but not sure brand is a factor), empty folders with Asian characters created in a drive I have been working in recently. There is no information in the properties; I just delete them, so it seems more of a nuisance than a serious issue, but it is still bizarre and kind of disturbing. Thanks for any diagnosis or insight.
