Installed a new drive (Samsung 850 Pro 512GB 2.5 inch SATA III internal SSD) and when I attempted a clean install of Windows 7 Pro I got the message:

Windows cannot be installed to this disk. This computer's hardware may not support booting to this disk. Ensure that the disk's controller is enabled in the computer"s BIOS menu.

However, I can see the disk displayed during the installation of windows in their software.

The disk is displayed when clicking on "Computer" with all the other drives.

The disk is displayed when right clicking on the above display and in "Hardware" it clearly is displayed there along with all the other drives.

The disk is displayed in the "General" heading as well.

And in "Device Properties" under "General" the disk is displayed and indicates "This device is working properly."

Can anyone describe to me how, in very specific steps, in the AS ROCK X79 EXTREME6 UEFI (the new description for BIOS) I can properly "Enable" this disk?

Thanks for the information. Exactly how do I do that? I have tried to delete files on the drive (designated as Local Disk [D:] but when opened there are no files. I tried to format this drive and windows says it cant do that. The drive shows 444 GB free of 476 GB?

The virtual drive shows 45.8 MB free of 99.9 MB? There is a folder on the partition (designated as System Reserved [F:] labeled "Boot" inside the folder is a file labeled "BCD"
I have tried to delete the file, a window pops up and says the file is in use I cannot delete it. I tried to format the drive and get the same results.

But as an aside, can you answer my original question? Can anyone describe to me how, in very specific steps, in the AS ROCK X79 EXTREME6 UEFI (the new description for BIOS) I can properly "Enable" this disk?

When you start the Windows 7 install, it asks you to select the drive you want to install to. Select any existing partitions on the drive and delete them until it lets you continue with the installation.

OK got that all sorted out. I was able to delete the partition for the new drive. Thank you very much for that. However, I am still facing my original problem. Can you describe to me how, in very specific steps, in the AS ROCK X79 EXTREME6 UEFI (the new description for BIOS) I can properly "Enable" this disk?

Disk O is the drive I am trying to install windows to. Disk 1 is the existing [C:] drive if I delete the partition won't I will be deleting files I would like to keep? And that still does not enable drivers for the new drive in the UEFI to be able to install windows on the new drive.

That will not work See http://imgur.com/a/xNdEY when selecting drive 0 "Windows cannot be installed to Disk 0 Partition 1" Because: "Windows cannot be installed to this disk. This computer's hardware man not support booting to the disk. Ensure that the disk's controller is enabled in the computer's BIOS menu."

I have deleted the partition, I have formated the drive.

Back to my original request.

I am NOT recreating the partition, the windows software is dong that. When I deleted the partition and clicked "NEXT" I get a message "Windows cannot be installed to Disk 0" Because: "Windows cannot be installed to this disk. This computer's hardware may not support booting to the disk. Ensure that the disk's controller is enabled in the computer's BIOS menu."

The SATA ports are set to ACHI in the UEFI this computer does not have a basic input output system (BIOS) it has Unified Extensible Firmware Interface, a standard firmware interface for PCs, designed to replace BIOS. This standard was created by over 140 technology companies as part of the UEFI consortium, including Microsoft.

That's strange.

I know what UEFI is, it's just easier to say BIOS, especially since the interface is still around.

Well, all I can suggest at this point would be to take the SSD back to the store for an exchange or RMA it if you bought it online, the controller in the SSD is probably defective.

That is an option - I bought it from Amazon. I'll do that. Back to the drawing board.

Thank you for all your assistance. This is something I haven't done before, install an new SSD, but over the years I have picked up some minor technical knowledge and skills. There is always something new I haven't done and a lot I know nothing about. Thanks again for your assistance.
