Enable NT4.0 Kernal ?

Kernel Mode is a mode that the OS is in whilst it's running (as opposed to User Mode). It allows access to priviledged parts of the computer (e.g.direct access to the hardware).

Programs get into Kernel Mode by making system calls. To get into NT4.0 Kernel Mode you install NT 4.0 and run a program.

Why do you ask?

I ask because I have been trying to figure out my printer, I tried running it as admin, and with compatibility mode and nothing, so I started reading about KERNEL mode and the printer needs to be able to access it. The drivers need it. and when I install it gives me a message saying that KERNEL MODE is blocked. What program do I install to get my printer to work? by using kernel.

To get your printer to work you install a Windows 7 driver from the manufacturer of your printer. It sounds like you might have tried a driver for an older OS.

Forget about kernel mode, just find the right driver for your printer. If you tell us what it is someone might even be able to point you in the right direction.

The printer that i have is a older Canon Multipass L6000, The drivers are only available for Win XP but not 7, I have the win xp driver that I have tried using with win7. I did contact the manufacturer of my printer and they pretty much told me that my printer is old and they will not issue new drivers for it. What their solution was to this problem is to purchase a new printer from them at a 20% Discount for refurbished printer and %16 for brand new. I did not want to do that I would rather pay someone to make the drivers for win7 for that printer..

If Canon won't support your printer under Windows 7 then you have a problem. XP drivers definitely won't work on Windows 7, as you have found.

I think you underestimate the cost of getting a custom driver written. As this is a multi-function printer/fax it would not be a trivial task. You could probably buy a dozen new printers for what a custom driver would cost you. Perhaps it is time to consider replacing the old printer; there are some very good ones nowadays at very reasonable prices.

If you're running Windows 7 Professional/Ultimate/(MAYBE Home premium) you can install a software called "XP Mode" which literally runs XP inside of Windows 7. This way you can use your printer software in Win 7. It'll be a bit slower than ideal, but it's free and worked for me. You can get this from Microsoft's website.

I've never actually tried that (I've tried XP Mode but not tried using it as a print spooler). Are you saying that you can print from a Windows 7 program via XP mode? That would be cool. But if you have to install all of the software that you want to print from into the XP VM, that's not so cool.

Actually, I haven't tried printing from a Win 7 Program (and now my printer's out of ink and I'm out of town for a couple days). I get the feeling you actually can't do that, but you can print your document in Win7 to a universal printing format (like the built in one or to pdf via a driver like PrimoPDF). Then XP will guaranteedly be able to print it and you can do that from any Win7 program.

Fixed all my issues by 1)Build a new PC, 2)Bought a new Samsung Color Laser Printer 3) Installed Fresh Windows7.......... Everything Works like it should.... And once again I appreciate all the great help you as whole have brought to this site and me as an individual Thank you!
