Question Enabling 144hz monitor on laptop

Hello, I'm trying to display my Asus laptop that only have 60hz refresh rate, on my Asus vg248qe monitor which supports all cables (hdmi, vga/dvi, and displayport) so I can use its 144hz refresh rate.

My problem is, my laptop only supports hdmi cables and I read in the forums that vg248qe's 144hz refresh rate only works on vga/dvi and displayport cables. I'm thinking using a vga to hdmi converter, will that give me the same result with 60hz?

My laptop uses gtx 960m graphics card, if it has something to do with it

Only the Displayport and Dual link DVI port on that monitor supports 1080p@144hz. The HDMI port is limited to 60hz and the VGA port is non existant. There are not HDMI to Displayport adapters that support 1080p@144hz that I have seen.
