I recently upgraded to an ssd in my desktop and my first fresh install on the OS seems to not have it running in ahci. I have it enabled in my bios an in one of the two sata ports that support it but samsung magician is showing it is still deactivated, plus all attempts to activate it after the install has failed. Im ready to do another fresh install and I'm not sure which file I should be using from my motherboards download page. Im using an ASUS P7P55D-E with win7 64-bit. under the sata tab on the download page I have three choices

1) Marvell 9123/9120 Controller Driver V1.0.0.1042 for Windows 32/64bit XP & Windows 32/64bit Vista & 32/64bit Windows 7.(WHQL)

2)JMicron JMB36X Controller Driver V1.17.51.2 for Windows 32/64bit XP & 32/64bit Vista & 32/64bit 7.(WHQL)

3)Intel(R) Matrix Storage Manager Driver V8.9.0.1023 for Windows 32/64bit XP & Windows 32/64bit Vista & 32/64bit Windows 7.(WHQL)
Intel(R) AHCI/RAID Driver Disk for Windows 32/64bit XP & Windows 32/64bit Vista & 32/64bit Windows 7.

Which one of theses do I need to add to a usb drive to be loaded during the install? I thought 3 but I want to be sure.

Solution

Windows 7 should have the correct drivers included with the O/S.

Try this.

You need to know the name of the motherboard driver controller - it might be something like 'Intel ICH9M' or something but it will refer to your chipset.

Go to Device Manager and open the 'IDE ATA' folder.

Right click on your drive controller and select 'Update Driver'.

Choose to 'Browse your computer'.

Choose 'Let me pick from a list'.

Pick the AHCI driver from the list that suits your system and follow the instructions.

You do have the latest Chipset drivers for your motherboard installed, don't you?

You'll have to do a restart to check if this worked.
