Encode Pointer could not be located

I am getting an error message Encode Pointer could not be located in the dynamic link library KERNEL32.dll. My friend has Windows XP Home Version 2002. He has Service Pack 1. I downloaded Service Pack 2 for him. Will this resolve the problem? -thanks

SP2 will cure that error, but you should really install SP3.
