Win @K Server SBE; I have a client requiring me to encrypt the operating system. Not just his data, but the operating system, using EFS, PGP, or Entrust. I know I can encrypt a folder, but a drive? What happens to the functionality of other server based programs? TIA.

I don't know about the others but with EFS you can not encrypt the system
folder - I don't think it will let you and if it does the operating system
will be unuseable. --- Steve

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;243756 --- advises
why system files can not be encrypted with EFS.

Thanks, Steve. I found exactly that in the MS Security Guidance Kit.

EFS doesn't support encrypting the system folders. There are third party
software and hardware solutions (search google for windows hard drive
encryption) that can encrypt the entire hard drive. Used mainly to mitigate
loss of intellectual property when a laptop is lost or stolen.
