Encyclopedia Brown and The Case of the Missing Cores

I recently bought an i7 5820k CPU. It has 6 cores and 12 threads. Until recently task manager would should 12 graphs on the performance tab, Core Temp would show 6 cores 12 threads, and CPU-Z would show 6 cores. Now task manager only shows 6 graphs, Core Temp shows 3 cores, and CPU-Z shows 3 cores 6 threads. Speccy is also showing 3 cores 6 threads. My BIOS is seeing that there are 6 cores. I went into msconfig and set the advance options to 6 processor cores shut the computer down cut the PSU off and unplugged it. Still nothing. Any ideas?

Have you tried clearing the CMOS? Pull the battery out and leave it out for about a minute if you don't have a dedicated motherboard button for that.
