Yes I saw this posted the other day, but now I don't see it. I am having
same problem.
I am running XP Pro, SP2 (fully updated), Zone Alarm (free version) and an
Antivirus Program. All are fully updated. I have run all kinds of spyware
programs and nothing is showing up.

When I go to shutdown or reboot, I get a popup "End Program --
IEEXPLORE.EXE". This seems to started after updating xp the last time, and
getting worse every day. At first it was intermittent, but now it happens
every time I have used IE during a session. I cannot swear it is associated
with the updates.

Before doing shutdown or reboot, I have checked the Task Manager, Process
tab and IEEXPLORE.EXE, is listed as many times as I have opened IE during
the session. If it is listed more than once, then I get that popup that
many times, before xp finally shuts down.

I have checked MS Knowledge base and the reference it made to this was in
Spanish Version of XP, which was NO help.

NEED HELP please LOL. This is a PITA.
Thanks

You might want to try those scans again in safe mode with updated
definitions. IEEXPLORE.EXE is not, for instance, a Microsoft application.
Searching for that specific file name (assuming it's not a typo as this is
what you typed twice) showed nothing good. If a scan isn't effective you may
wish to take a look

If there's nothing effective there then:

You are right Galen, I did mis-spell it. Here is correct spelling:
IEXPLORE.EXE

IS this a MS Application? And how do I fix the problem if it is?

I will run all the spyware applications again.
Thanks

Alright, that makes a bit more sense. The A² finding something is good, sort
of. Did you do your scans in safe mode? Anyhow, take a peek here:

WINDOWS XP
"It won't quit working":
http://aumha.org/win5/a/shtdwnxp.htm

That will give you a number of possible causes and resolutions. You may, of
course, need to try a couple.

From what I read, I gather you think this is a hijack problem. BTW, running
spyware programs show clean. I was going to get MS antispyware, but hell
even with Windows Genuine Advantage turned off, it still shows my xp as not
being good (xp updates work fine) and will NOT let me download that
software. MS is beginning to really be a pain.
I do have a couple of options I guess. I have a ghost image done long
before this problem started. I can put that back and hope that rids me of
the issue. I was just curious why this started and what could be done about
it.
Thanks much

Did you check out the shutdown troubleshooting process from Aumha.org?
There's a lot to try but it's worth it and *most* resolutions are there from
what I've witnessed.

I have tried everything anyone one has suggested. The problem is still
there and I am still wait to here from Hijackthis. As I have said before, I
know I am not the only one having this issue. In fact there is a posting
here IEXPLORE.EXE in this group now with the same problem and no solutions.
Thank you
