Hi I have recently started HL2 and am wondering how the original game ended.
There is no manual and no explanation of the storyline, I think valve assume
everyone has finished hl1. I got to the zen level and got bored of all the
jumping to platforms and never ended the game.
What was behind the incident at black mesa etc? Who was the man with the
brief case ? What happened to freeman at the end and why has he been sent to
this place? This would really add to my enjoyment of HL2 as it seems to have
a plot following the original game.
I know you will say to finish the game and not be so lazy but after starting
hl2 I don't feel I could go back to hl1

Thanks

Lots of folks were turned away by the Xen levels. Some of the better
parts of the game I thought. Well, anyways...a tad of SPOILER now:

It seems once Gordon left Earth thru the portal to Xen, he doesn't
return for a while. You do all the jumping and teleporting on the
space rocks thing, go thru some rather interesting levels and fights,
and finally get to the EndBoss. It is called Nihilanth. Looks like a
humongous baby all stitched together, whose top of head opens up to let
out energy balls. You blast away while the energy is recovering and
finally put an end to ol Nihilanth baby. This does a few things now.
1. it ends this game. 2. GMan (guy in suit with briefcase) has been
paying attention to Gordon, a lot. He now will offer Gordon
congratulations on job well done, condolences on his new fate, and a New
Job. This job Gordon will either accept and be 'kept around' sortof, or
he will be put in a battle he has absolutely no hope or chance of living
through.
HL2 assumes Gordon took the job. Otherwise, don't play HL2 :)
3. The brown 3 armed aliens with green articles on neck and arm?
They're named Vortigants. They are a people that were enslaved by ....
well .... now you can play HL2 and learn the rest like we did :)
Did you pay attention to the Gman at the beginning of HL2 when you
selected Start New Game? You didn't? Then start a new game and pay
attention! :) There is quite a bit of story you get to learn as you
go, just pay attention to all the ambient sounds, to what is shown on
any active video screen, etc. Talk to anyone who will. The name
COMBINE is a bad thing in HL2. They dont like you or any human.
You will find out more about the Black Mesa Incident in the course of
playing HL2. You learn in bits n pieces, but I think it's interesting.
You do NOT go back to Xen or any other alien place. You stay put on
dear ol devastated Earth.
HIH!
McG.

I'd forgotten how HL ended, but your description brought back memories. I
think I personally cheated like mad through the Zen levels just to get to
the end. To me it was kind of tedious at that point. To their credit they
fixed that in the new game. It never got tedious.

The ending just didn't make much sense. It was more a teaser than an ending.
They show you this weird stuff with no real explanation. They teleport you
here and there. Not satisfying. Hopefully at some point they will bring
things together in some sort of satisfying way.

Snap! I didn't finish it either, for the very same reason. (Although i
have seen someone else do it)

The answer to most of those questions won't be found in HL1... So little
was explained that it shouldn't matter whether or not you even played it 🙂
However if you keep your eyes peeled and ears wide open while playing
through HL2, you may find some clues lying around...

The only thing worth knowing at this point is that the G-man (that's the
guy in the suit) offered you a job at the end of HL1..

Right now, You are Gordon Freeman, and the last thing you remember was
being offered a job by G-Man... you don't know where you are, what is
going on, why you are here, or even what day of the week it is...

have fun :)

You'll be pleased to know that there is very little of that sort of stuff in
HL2
