So which Enermax Power Supplies are compatible with the CoolerMaster ATC 201 case?

Coolermaster's web site says that enermax PSU's don't fit into their cases due to the lower fan, but my friend has a new enermax that does fit in his CM case, because enermax started fitting the fans flush with the edge of the case...

does anyone know the serial number of the products with fans that fit?

I just looked at my EG465P-VE PSU and it is not flush underneath, if I removed the fan grill it then would be!

cheers, that's what i was wondering about, mmm i suppose if i get a non flush PSU then i'll just unscrew the fan grill, install the PSU, then re-attach the grill

Should be alright.

Can allways remove a small amount of metal, hard to put it back!

This isn't exactly on topic but get an Antec TruePower PSU. They used to be inferior to Enermax until now. The new TruePower PSUs have dual-fans but they regulate the voltage rails much much better than Enermax now, check here.

That was an interesting PDF article. The whole time they kept referring to the popular 430W Enermax PSU. Who knows if they're better or not?

I do know that Enermax has active PFC but the fan speed is always manually adjusted while this one appears to be automatic, which is nice.

One thing I wonder about, however, is how exactly does the PSU unit control fan speed of case fans? I don't see how this is possible or effective, as determining the correct case fan speed would require the PSU to know the temperature of the CPU and mainboard.

Interesting points though. I never knew about the +5 and +3.3 lines. After reading this, I'm thinking if I did buy a PSU today it would be an Antec especially since they are cheaper than the enermaxes. Course I might be a victim of advertising here, but then again, no one ever said Antec's newest line was bad did they? AFAIK practically anyone has bought Enermax PSU's from word of mouth alone, so I see no problem doing that for Antec.

i have found the same power's specs from Enermax. EG465AX-VE(W) FCA (it is only a note. )

the new Enermax PFC/FMA/FCA series have a huge +12v power channel. (33 amps for the 431watts psu). i think that let you plugging alot of hard disks & usb peripherals without issues. i don't know if it exists other psu brands with those same specifications.

From those specs it actually looks like Enermax's +12 line is the same as Antec's +12 line except the minimum for Antec is 5 Amps while Enermax's minimum of 4 Amps.

i think you didn't see my point which is the Enermax has upper +3v & +5v channels. well.. at least from the specs. i dunno what are the real behaviour of both. maybe a test is required...

whatsoever here are the specs:

Ah I see.. that's the 550W. That thing is nearly twice as expensive as the Antec 430W true power. Preferably I would go with the 430W cause it's cheaper and probably works well enough.
Edited by cakecake on 07/07/02 01:45 PM.

Oops, I meant the 430W Antec in my previous post.

You should definitely get a new PSU as soon as possible then. That's got to be frustrating to use a computer like that.

However have you also looked at the Antec 550W? It's ~$115 at various merchants on Pricewatch. Maybe it's as good as the Enermax. Maybe not but it is worth looking.

the Antec is exactly a TruePower 530W. it is really cheaper but IMO the Enermax is more powerful. BUT YES it's a floorer choice between a good cheaper PSU & a (few) higher expensive one (Enermax EG651P-VE FMA - 550W). moreover i think that the Enermax quality is upper as well, IMO.

Didn't tell a whole lot about the PSU in comparison to other PSU's. He just used an el cheapo Fotron PSU. I mean, seriously, why are you even comparing a PSU that's 350W and less than half the cost to a PSU that's 550W? From what I can tell there doesn't seem to be much different between the Antec and the Enermax besides what you just pointed out. I seriously have the feeling that you are paying an unnecessary premium for a 550W PSU that will won't benefit you much unless you daisy chain at least 5 high power USB devices and have 15 case fans. And from reading Antec's docs on their trupower technology it seems like the +5 and +3.3 outputs are probably going to be of the same capability of the Enermax 550W. From what I can tell a good +5 and +3.3 are necessary for system stability, but you don't need a ton of wattage. In that manner, the Antec will be just as good as it delivers a stable flow to those outputs and enough power to fill your entire system with AIB's.

Other things... the sound levels of the two brands of PSU's appear to be the same. Actually, the Antec will do the fan speed adjustments automatically for you based on temps inside the case. The Antec also has power flow correction and dual fans. The truth is.. I don't see much of a difference and to me it seems like the 550W is priced so high because it is a premium product. Recently Enermax announced their 600W PSU but that's not out yet so the 550W is currently their best offering, and as such, you pay a premium for it, much like you pay on a price curve for processors.

yes, you are right because of the large price difference between both in Europe.
(True550/150€ versus EG651P-VE/230€)

you pay on a price curve for processors.
i assume you said that some processors could be a good deal for now, no?
i think it's the case for the new NW series I.E. 1.6A, 1.8A, 2.0A cpus. (not really the above series, they are yet too expensive) i have read some reviews plus some posts here about those processors & i intend to get an Intel platform (above all due to their overclockability). i plan to take a 1.8A with a 533/DDR mb within a P4X333 or a i845g chipset. i don't know yet which mb should i take. an overclocking may push the cpu round 2.4Ghz up to 3Ghz (according to a good striping & aided by some Corsair XMS3200 memory & a Alpha PAL8045 HSF  ).
this will cost me round 380€ implying a good price/performance ratio.

i don't think i'll get a 1.8A not because of its price but i read somewhere it is more difficult to pass 2.5Ghz with this one.
