There's a talking sword in chapter 1 of HOTU, which my fighter/bard/RDD
ended up using all the way thru the whole campaign, with upgrades as I
could afford them from the weaponsmith and his ghost.

I was recently reading thru old posts and someone said :He is...
available as a longsword, greatsword, short sword or dagger.

I got him as a longsword, and assumed that he always was a longsword; it
seems odd to me that something like this is different forms in different
versions of the game, but then again why not.

My question is, how is his form determined? I don't recall an option to
change his shape (but maybe I've just forgotten it, its been many months
since I played that game). Assuming his form is fixed when you get him,
is it random, or does the game use some factor of your character, such
as your class or weapon focus or something, and make a guess?

Different sorts of weapons are better suited for different character
builds, after all; someone designed around massive damage from two
handers isn't going to be happy with a dagger, while someone designed
around light fast weapons isn't going to be overjoyed to end up with a
greatsword.

When you first meet him, if you say you have no use for a longsword, he
offers to change shape.
