Epson 3200 or 4870 versus Nikon LS-2000 or newer versions

Some help please:

I was trying to make a quality comparison of a 35mm Provia 100F image
scanned with my Nikon LS-2000 and my Epson 3200 (at 1600 dpi) and was very
disappointed with the results. ( My son is trying to decide on either a
dedicated slide scanner versus a flatbed with photo capabilities)

The image color saturation and sharpness from the Nikon scanner was nearly
perfect without much tweaking in Photoshop. The scan of the same image using
the Epson was considerably less sharp and showed decreased color saturation.
The image was scanned in the Epson using their 35mm film strip carrier.

Is there any focus adjustment available on the Epson? I have not found it.

Any tips would be appreciated.

There are no focus adjustments available on the Epson. The results of
your comparison are consistent with expectations - no desktop flatbed
will come close to even the dated LS-2000, let alone newer models.
