[SOLVED] Epson 4990 won't scan ?

I have a Epson 4990. Haven't used it in years. Now when I simply hit 'scan' it will scan just fine, but when I hit 'preview' first and then hit 'scan' I get an error... "failed to start scanner. error during device i/o".
any idea how to correct this?

Sounds like the scanner is not setup on the computer properly, check device manager to make sure it is detected properly check for newer software and drivers, compatibility with your Windows version.
