Epson CX5400 feedback

Hello
anybody knows how to use the epson CX5400 only to scan, that is with no ink in the darn cartridges????

Oh those cunning fiends -- no ink, no scan. How desperate they are to sell their overpriced refills, even when you don't need them !

As a matter of interest -- which is cheaper, a complete set of Epson refills or a new Canon scanner ? Answers on a postcard to Epson.

See, I live in El Salvador, Central America so those $$$ do make a difference here, that is if you get my drift. I really need a technical answer not a philosophical micro essay on the marcheting tactics of Epson
