I have a Epson LX-810L printer connected to a HP compaq running Windows 7 Home Basic x86. I read somewhere that LX Series 1 (80) driver would work. And it did.. at first...
Every single time I reboot the computer, the printer shows a weird bug: it starts printing the same line 2 times, some werid characteres, weird disposal of text: the same symptons of a wrong driver.

Sometimes, if I reinstall the printer at "Devices and Printers", it works again.. But most of the times I have to uninstall, reboot and install to make it work again.

I already tried to prevent windows from updating drivers, disconnected from internet, formated the PC 2 times, to Windows 7 Professional x64 and Windows 7 Home Basic x64, and tried many other drivers from Windows Update (LX300, for example). Nothing helped.

The only thing that seems to work is: turn off the printer before rebooting the PC. And turn on the printer after the windows is completely loaded. Doing that the printer doesn't bug.

Anyway, I would like to solve this problem, not to "fool it". Any sugestions? Thank you!

Solution
Get an old PC with Windows XP and real Centronics interface, and use it as a print server (or get networked print server).
Or live the way you know works - keep it off, and turn it on only when needed.
