epson stylus photo 1270 streaks

I am fixing an epson that leaves red streaks across the pages when it
prints. If I do a couple of head cleanings, and print a couple of test
pages, the streaks clear, but if I leave the printer to sit for a
while, they come right back. It has genuine epson cartridges that are
brand new; the problem started before they were changed. Any ideas?

i need your address; they aren't shown all the way... the streaks are
red and about the width of an ink pen's ink stream (when you write on

It depends on the nature of the streak. If it is colored streak, about
one nozzle in thickness, you have a problem head, and I know of no fix.
If it is a white streak where there should be color, that is often
repairable, as it is a partial head clog. If it is a irregular thicker
smeary streak, likely either you have a piece of lint or hair under the
head, or accumulation of dried ink, and that area needs a cleaning.

If you could email me a small attachment of a scan of the defect at
about 300 dpi, and jpegged to high quality, and with that explain more
about which printer, when it first occurred, and what type of inks you
ar using, I can probably advice you what to do to resolve the problem.

You obviously have my email, since you sent me the same request and I
received it in private email.

If the lines are fairly consistent, are spaced evenly down the page,
made of MAGENTA rather than red ink (red is made from both yellow and
magenta, so that is not very likely), and they tend to extend across the
page, beyond the image area, (in the margins) then it is probably the
dreaded stuck nozzle problem. It was a very common defect in the 870
and 1270 printers, and it is a type of head failure. It usually,
although not always will disappear if you print in 720 dpi rather than 1440.

I suggest people who have their printers develop this problem "demand"
Epson work out a deal to allow for a trade in or repair at reduced cost.
It is a design flaw, and it makes the head fail prematurely.

The only fix is to have the head replaced.
