Have an Epson WF 3640 printer that is giving blurred output (looks like occasional double strike or some times typeface appears like italics. Have: Aligned print heads. Updated drivers. Cleaned the encoder strip. Printing from 2 laptops and printer is connected via wi-fi. Output still the same. Tried copy of same document that was printed correctly on laser printer and still get same results. Printer does not get much use and wife noticed the other day. Was wondering if anyone else has had same problem? Not much online about issue so thought I would try here. Thanks in advance for any replies.
Both laptops Win 7 64 bit.

I doubt it is in any way OS or software-related.

You haven't been feeding it third-party ink cartridges by any chance?
If yes, I'd say they are causing it. Epson's in particular don't like compatible carts. as I know to my cost (the printer had to go in the skip).

Actually these are genuine Epson ink cartridges. Bought at Costco as back up with printer. Have seen this from day one. Like I said doesn't get much use. Had just replaced original starter black ink. I used to do tech support for HP inkjet printers and was certified on most. This almost seems like encoder strip or encoder wheel issue just haven't had time to look for access to encoder wheel. Strip has been cleaned twice now and doubt it is the issue. Many thanks for taking time to put up a post. If I figure it out will definitely post solution.

I'm having the same issue. the print is dull, blurry & smeared. I do not use my printer too much as I'm out of town 9 months out of 12 and then every other 2 weeks when I'm in town but the 2 weeks when I'm in town, I use it and I hate it! I use epson ink and I'm working off of windows 10. I wish there was a solution... 🙁
