I took a 'toon out into BB. Killed a giant bat and got a Basilisk
Eggs.

When I looted it, the main chat window had:

'Once again you startle as a loud hissing is heard. This time
though, it sounds a bit more pained. You believe the creature might
need help.'

First time I have seen that message. Other monsters who had basilisk
eggs didn't show that when I looted. I checked Alakhazam, nothing. I
did find Basilisk Eggs, but only as a drop by the lowland basilisks.

I did sell one for some nice plat. Anything else, besides food, they
can be used for or turned in ?

Thanks,
JimP.

Wow, many weirdities there. I've never heard of a bat dropping
basilisk eggs, and I've never heard that bit of flavor text either,
though I admit I haven't done a lot of hunting in BB.

As for what use they have, take a look at www.eqtraders.com; there
are about 5-6 recipes that use them. I wouldn't be surprised if
they got used in a quest also, but Alla's doesn't list any.

Note also that there are two different items, "Basilisk Egg" and
"Basilisk Eggs". Many -- but not all -- of the recipes shown on
eqtraders seem to accept either. If what you found really was the
plural form, it's even weirder, since that's listed as turning up
only as a foraged item in Rathe Mountains.

Only time I saw the flavor text, but other monsters had the eggs as
well. The other was a dwarf skeleton had one as a drop. I used eq
companion to look at the log file. This is on Stromm. Both 'toons
I've taken in there got it from giant bats and dwarf skeletons. log
file checked.

Yup. Several folks in-game have said it was for baking.

Its just that flavor text seems to make it appear as if its for
something else as well.

Good, I was hoping it wasn't me not finding it.

I checked my log files, it is the plural in all cases.

they are great for baking tradeskills - the "larger" the egg the more
combines you may get from it.
For exampla a snake egg will make one clump of dough and a basilisk egg make
may 4 (not sure on number!), a griffon egg more again so it is an efficient
way of stocking up on ingredients for your tradeskills.

One way for mobs to get items they "shouldn't" have, is for someone to
charm them, then give them the item. After charm drops they can be
engaged, killed, and looted... and the loot will include the items they
were given.

I don't know any normal explanation for the flavor text though, that
sounds like a GM was playing around (which of course is another way that
random mobs can get "wrong" items)

Actually 15 :) I do a lot of egg farming in Lavastorm as it;'s common
drop there. (PS Basilisk eggs in plural form only makes 5)
