EQ2-Wards and Warrior Damage Mitigation?

Playing a Shaman on EQ2 and wondering about how Spiritual Ward and such
interface with the warriors ability to mitigate damage. Is the damage that
goes "against" the max of the ward calculated after it "hits" the warrior,
taking into account his AC, defense, and other related skills?

Reason I ask is, if not, wouldn't a wizard tank as well warded, as a
Guardian warded?

Anyway, just curious if anyone knows how this works exactly.

Wards absorb a certain amount of damage (time based in the early levels
from what I see) and yes, you could tank with a wizard that is warded.
There are some effects that get through the ward such as poisoning, and
trauma. My rogue tanks pretty effectively now that my wife's shammy has her
first ward. My guardian solos quite well with his ward as well.
