Equivalent single GPU to r9 270x dual crossfire

Hey everyone. Long time user, first time poster. Please forgive me for any wrong doings.

I am currently running a r9 270x single card in my rig.
I am looking at running another 270x in Crossfire, but would like to know the closest performing single cards in both nVidia and AMD so I can do a price per performance comparison and see whether it's worth getting another card or upgrading to a high end card.
Also does anybody think it would be worth spending a little extra and getting a 280x or even 290x to run with my current 270x (I'm pretty sure they are compatible) or should I save the cash and just run dual 270x?

2 270x cards can preform as well as a 290x. So you could decide if you want the performance of a 290x with 2 of your cards or actually get a 290x to crossfire with a 270x. Lot more money for a bit extra performance.. generally Higher end cards (like a gtx 980) would out perform 2 270x cards. and yes the 290x and 270x are compatible

Where I live, a 280x is only $15 more than a 270x, and a 290x is $150-200 even more than that so naturally 280x would be most cost effective choice.
If I did do this (270x and 280x Crossfire), would I see considerable increases in game performance? Or do you think I would be better off holding out until I can afford a better single card with say DX12 (or DX13 by the time I muster up the cash)?

But anyway a high end card like gtx 980 will cost you like $600+ so pick your card!

On most games, crossfire will only grant like 9-20% Fps increase
so its your choice entirely. I have 2 270x cards and im gonna upgrade to a 390x asap but if you feel like you want the extra performance from the cards then I would recommend getting them and keeping them for a couple years.
