Hi all,

I've been trying to install Windows 10 on a HP pavillion dv9500. It should run fine afaik.. however, when booting the Windows 10 installer from DVD i get the error code 0xc00000e9 (Bad I/O). I tried the following things:

- Booting from USB (Doesn't work, keep getting a blinking underscore)
- Removing the hard drive (I'm installing it on an ssd)
- Disabling every other hard drive or boot possibility
- Installing from network (yes..)
- Reformatting the USB drive
- Installed a new CMOS battery (System time didn't keep up)

Any fixes? It happens after around 30 mins on the windows 10 logo (No loader icon yet..)

Solution
Turns out the problem was I was burning the ISO to a USB stick using UEFI boot. The laptop i'm installing it on does not yet support UEFI. I changed the boot to BIOS and it worked fine. (I'm using RUFUS for this)
How soon do you get the error? As soon as it boots or when you are choose the drive to boot to?

It seems this can be caused by a corrupted ISO, or Bad storage drives (SSD/HDD)

See if this helps with USB - https://support.hp.com/si-en/document/c03736054

can you test SSD in another machine?

helps to remove extra hdd anyway as Win 10 likes to install its boot partition on any extra space it finds on other drives. Only giving it 1 drive to choose from stops that bad habit. Its bad as if 2nd drive dies or is removed, PC won't boot up.
