Error Code 80240020

Sirs, Firstly I must point out that I am in no way conversant with the inner workings of a computer. I have Windows 8.1 and am waiting for the upgrade to Windows 10, however in my Windows Update I keep getting the message Failed error 80240020 (7 times so far). I have looked on Microsofts site and they have not heard of this error??????. On various Windows 10 sites it lists this error? and then goes on to tell you how to correct this error. I do not have the faintest clue as to what they are talking about, hopefully in laymans terms, is this error something that will be fixed remotely or will I have to contact Microsoft? Thank you for any help you can give me. Robert

Are you updating to Windows 10 via Windows Update? I had the very same 80240020 error.

Try this.

Google Search the "Windows Media Creation Tool" and use the tool to either update the computer or create disks (DVDs or Flash Disks) to update (The latter worked for me as the former option gave me the "Something happened"

This failure is well known and there are ways to get rid of the failure.

Attention! You must run the upgrade on top of your Win7 or Win8/8.1 and activate Win8.2 first before you can do the clean install.
