Hello!
This is my first build for a computer I want to dedicate to video editing. All new parts. I've gone over forums and I've found this problem with various responses.
What happened:
Connected everything, got power, fans, LEDs on -- but then got Error b6. No POSTING. (Also, I just read about getting a MB speaker, so I don't have Beep info yet.)
Removed RAM down to one stick.
Then got d6 -- "No Console Output Device."
Reseated GPU and tired in different PCIe slots. No change.
Reconnected power to GPU from PSU. No change.
Pressed CMOS. No change.
Remove GPU and received the same code: d6
Also used Anti-static workspace and bracelet, but you never know. I might have goofed somewhere.
I have not:
Examined CPU for bent pins. However, I was was very careful to align correctly. Heatsink also has its own thermal paste, so I did not over apply.
I don't think its a compatibility issue as I had my specs cleared from this forum and modeled it off another build: www.willudesign.com/?project=guide-how-to-build-a-computer-for-video-editing --
However, I'd used a different GPU, one that I'm not sure is on the compatibility list for my MB. It seemed top of the line and "newer" and therefore I thought it would be OK (and it's PCIe) but now I'm reading about "BIOS compatibility," not sure if that's my problem.
My motherboard does not have a way for me to plug my monitor in directly to it, either.
Specs:
CPU: i7 3930K
Heatsink: Corsair H100i
MB: ASRock X79 Extreme6
graphics card: PNY Video Graphics Card VCGGTX7803XPB
PSU: Seasonic 760
MEM: 4Gx4|GSKIL F3-17000CL11Q-16GBZL (I have 8 sticks total)
Hard Drive (OS) : Corsair ForceGT SSD 120GB
Hard Drive (Scratch Disk) : (2x) Hitachi Deskstar 1TB
Hard Drive (Media Disk) : (4x) Seagate Barracuda 2TB
Case: NZXT Phantom Full Tower
On the "b7" error:
The RAM sticks are 1.60 volts each (not 1.50) so I'm wondering if that could be part of the "b7" error. I read on this site that once I get into the bios I can adjust and add more sticks.
I'm a little freaked out because I'm new at this and was hoping for it to boot!
Thanks,
Seth
