I recently purchased dell inspiron 5559 which came with windows 10 but after getting tired of windows silent updates which would start downloading even when turned off. I decided to make a clean install of windows 7.

I already have official iso of windows 7 prof 64 bit. which was purchased by me few years back. I tried to use rufus and windows media creation tool which did not work. rufus gave error cd/dvd/usb drives cannot be found during installation.

got a new dvd installed iso on it solved the problem with rufus but after instllation process at the end it says " Windows could not update the computer's boot configuration. Installation cannot proceed."

Methods i tried.
1. checked with uefi secure boot off. legacy secure boot off.
2. typing cd.. cd.. oobe msoobe method but in the last msoobe it shows unkown command or keyword.

I formatted or deleted everything using windows bootcamp don't know if that has anything to do with it.

Solution
solved it after formatting with ntfs and gpt partition. both from diskpart.

I tried first with only formatting with ntfs then it gave me error cannot install efi... mbr don't work need gpt.
formatted again and used gpt as partition type. it worked.

since it did say somewhere fat32 pendrive i thought i might need fat32 for hard disk too. but more than 32gb for fat32 don't work so just wanted to try with ntfs and it worked.

linking two videos that helped. gpt partition and diskpart ntfs format.

tl;dr diskpart for both formatting with ntfs and gpt partition for windows installing solved it for me.

This isnt a rufus error. rufus gave error cd/dvd/usb drives cannot be found during installation.

It's because you plugged the flash drive into a USB 3 port. Win7 needs USB 3 drivers if you use a USB 3 port

Windows 7 doesn't support USB 3 natively when you install it. You have to slipstream the USB 3 drivers into an ISO

If there are USB 2 ports, use one of them.

Why use bootcamp you can format / delete partitions in Windows setup. After you boot from the dvd or flash drive

Are you trying to install this on a Mac, or on a laptop??

Because the other error can also happen when you try to install Windows using bootcamp

For usb i only used 2.0 usb into 2.0 port. also tried with 3.0 port and removed and plugged again method but it did not solve it.
The problem with rufus "cd/dvd/usb drivers" was solved when i used dvd instead usb from the start.
But now after waiting 30mins for installing it says error" Windows could not update boot configuration....". tried it more than few times but still same.
I'm using dell 5559 which came with windows 10
