Ok i have a p5q deluxe,Q6600,Vista64bit,4850 asus,750w Corsair PSU, Samsung20x DVDRW drive & a WD6400AAKS HDD & a Maxtor 120gb (ribbon style HDD not sata)

Ok i got the P5q Deluxe about 2 weeks ago was able to install Vista64bit on the WD6400 HDD no problem but somehow ended up getting no display the next day no beeps at boot up nothing ended up calling asus and they just told me to RMA it which i did...
So Today i received the new P5Q Deluxe installed everything again and booted up to see a "NO hard disk detected" error ived read about that error and i got it last time on the other mobo but this time the HDD doesnt show up if i put it on the red Sata ports (i know it doesnt show up on the orange but should show up on the red)

So i decided to try the other HDD the Maxtor 120gb which was a slave on my old rig and has only 20gb of stuff in it so i figured id just install vista there and RMA the WD HD to them.

Booted up and displayed perfectly put the DVDRW as the Initial boot set the HDD as 2nd and put the vista disk in... booted up and i get a "ERROR Loading OS" and it doesnt change from that... ever ived tried many diff configuartions i havent tried to OC anything since i cant even get vista to boot up or the disk that comes with the mobo (when i put that one in i just get the message to press a key to load up a boot device/cd which neither works).

So im serioulsy confused on this vista wont boot up due to "Error Loading OS" with a fresh HDD and the WD HDD doesnt even display as if its connected anymore & thats where i installed Vista yet still disconnected i get a error loading OS message when the other HD has never had a OS to begin with... any help?

by default they're set to IDE, as far as raid enabled im not sure what yo mean by that, the only 2 sata ports that have access to raid in my MOBOs case are the orange ones & since the maxtor HDD im trying to work with isnt sata i dont connect it thru there its ribbon style...

Just to update i formatted the Maxtor HDD because i read about the MBR perhaps being the culprit and no go...
It recognizes the Maxtor HDD but doesn't let me boot up if i put the DVD drive as first boot and the HDD as 2nd with the Vista DVD inside to install...
or vice versa for that matter. Everything is setup IDE as default under the "Configure Sata as" I have IDE/RAID/AHCI
I have tried AHCI but that doesn't do anything and of course i wont bother with raid since this isn't a sata HDD nor i have 2 of them

The Onboard Devices also has the option to Disable "Marvell IDE or Marvell IDE BOOT ROM" which if i do it doesn't recognize the HDD so i have to keep that enabled (i read on other posts people suggesting that but didn't work)

& Again i have the Boot device priority as:
1st boot: CDROM CDDVDW sh-s20
2nd boot: IDE Maxtor
3rd boot: Disabled

I know that it not being a sata HDD (being older ribbon style) couldn't be the issue could it? i mean its recognized but doesn't let me boot up the DVD drive to get a Vista screen only this damn "error loading OS"

An IDE drive on a ribbon cable should work fine I think. These are getting rarer and rarer on new systems but they work fine on my fairly new system, Just remember to jumper it to 'single drive' since you used it as a slave before.

Do you have an older DVD drive, preferably IDE, that you could substitute for the Samsung? If the Sammy isn't already ide of course. Sometimes SATA drives have issues booting even when they shouldn't, or so it seems.

Can you boot from any other disc, such as an XP disc or some other bootable CD? What error message do you get?

my old rig has a dvd and a cdrom drive i guess i could try one of them even do they're not sata and yes i set the jumpers to master i also tried cs(cable select) and didn't work
Im not using this HDD cause i want to heh... my damn WD6400AAKS isn't recognized anymore so i think its dead otherwise im sure i wouldn't be having this prob. Even do the maxtor has never had a OS installed on it... yet im having this issue...

& Nothing boots I have tried 2 disks the p5q deluxe disk that came with the mobo and the vista 64 bit i purchased. I dont have the old XP disk that came with my old rig so i cant try that. Both disks pop up the same Error Loading OS message

Try a different DVD drive for sure.

heh ok so i tired the DVD drive from my old rig and lo and behold the vista disk boots up no problem...
I had a few issues installing it to the Maxtor HDD but i got it done installed the drivers that came with the mobo (from their disk) and did the windows update online downloaded a bunch of updates etc etc...

After all that i decided to go back and take out the DVD drive from the old rig and put in the samsung again just to see a "-" blinking non stop now after post... i cant even access the bios for some reason... hit delete all I want and it wont take me to the bios... swapped it back and that " - " just blinks... so i fixed one issue but found myself another since its late i gave up on it for the day i'll update tomorrow if i can get that mysterious line thing out of the screen and boot up vista again...

Well good news! it seems like the dvd drive from my old rig has jumpers... it was set as a master and the maxtor HDD as a slave... so i swapped the jumpers reset the cmos booted up and im golden again :)
Im actually on it atm with vista running perfectly ;D

Funny thing do with the samsungx20 dvdrw i bought from newegg, the mobo recognizes it shows up on the bios and it shows up on vista as a G drive (the maxtor being the D) but i put a cd/dvd/burned music cd any sort of media and it doesnt load it... at all i looked online for drivers but it seems like it doesnt have any Model #: SH-S203 yet on the dvd drive from my old rig i put any sort of media dvd/cd and it boots up right away i might just RMA it along with the WD HDD...

I received the blue screen of death with the never ending "Error loading OS". Machine: EVGA 790i MB, Core 2 Quad, 4GB DDR3, etc. Read all the posts everywhere without much promise. Fortunately I had a cloned HD (Seagate 500GB Pata) and swapped it and YAHOO, that worked. Now how to get other HD working as that had the latest config and files I needed. Noticed the BIOS only read 2GB memory and called EVGA (great support and lifetime warrantee on hardware). They told me to clear the bios by removing the battery and unplugging the PC and wait 15 minutes. Did that and reconfigured BIOS upon boot and I'm back in action. All is saved and working great again.

Hope this helps all with this issue. Now I need to try it on an older Dell Dimension with Win 2K installed.
