Archived from groups: microsoft.public.windowsxp.hardware (More info?)

I recently installed a new external hard drive. The drive gave me this
Error Message while installing:

"There was a problem installing this hardware:

HDS72252 5VLAT80 USB Device

An error occurred during the installation of the device

The specified service does not exist as an installed
service."

After closing the Error Message, the drive seems to work, but the message
keeps coming up every time I reboot or disconnect/reconnect the drive. I
have uninstalled/reinstalled this drive several times with the same result.
This drive works OK on another Windows computer that I have.

I looked on the Microsoft site and all I found was something about the
"spelling"?? Not sure what they mean? Windows is up to date. I have the
latest drivers for my Mother Board.

The drive brand name is Simple Tech. The model is STI-235/250 USB.

The computer is a WindowsXP Professional with a Shuttle AV49N mother board.
It has 1g of SDRAM. 2.4 GHZ Pentium 4 Processor. Any help would be greatly
appreciated.

I am having this same problem, can anyone tell me how to fix it please.
I had to do a reformat and that is when I started having this problem, before that everything worked fine. Yes all windows updates are in place.

Is it a hard drive or a flash drive? I didn't know simpletech made actual hard drives. Look in event viewer to see the details of the error, then google for a solution based on what it said.

Have you checked Simpletech's support website to see if they have already addressed this issue?
