While typing e-mail or working on the computer my screen
will go black and then the Dell screen comes on then a
window that says the system has recovered from a very
serious error and to send it to Micro Soft and then that
carp says who knows what. After several months of this
and trying to get some help from Dell Support, to no
avail, I finelly called Dell,spent 3 1/2
hours "reinstalling" all the c.d.s Dell sent with the
computer. It has worked great but today the same thing
happened again. Black screen. Dell Screen. Serious Error.
Send to Micro soft and blah, blah, blah. The reinstall was
done on 8-10-04. What is up with that??? Also how do I
get my spell check to work?? The window that you type
mail in where the spell check is is not in BOLD print and
I've just no clue. Thanks Linda, please reply in real
simple instructions. I am not a computer wizard.

Hi Linda,

Start/run eventvwr.msc, do the system and application logs give any clues as
to what's happening? A system will reboot on system error by default. If we
disable this reaction, it should give you a stop error code (the infamous
"blue screen") which may contain more information as to what's actually
going wrong.

Go to the Control Panel/System/Advanced tab, click on the startup and
recovery settings. Under system failure, uncheck the automatically restart
option. This should allow use to see the stop error, post back with the
details of the blue screen (error codes and modules involved). Note that
this will not harm your system any worse than it already is.

As to spellcheck, start/search/files for csapi3t1.dll, copy it to these
folders:

C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\PROOF
C:\Program Files\Outlook Express

> Linda, recently I had the same problem. Frustrated after re-installation of the OS and all other software only to have the problem persist I took it to the repair shop. They plugged it in and it worked just fine. It was determined, process of elimination, that the culprit was most likely the (internet) keyboard. Brought it home, plugged in another Keyboard...unit worked just fine.
It should also be noted the keyboard was not the only "gremlin".....the HP
software need an update obtained from HP to eliminate "page dumps" and
"program not responding" errors.
Good luck
