Error messages when trying to install Windows 8.1

Received error message 'The procedure entry point_CxxFrameHandler3 could not be located in the dynamic link library msvcrt.dll' when trying to install Windows 8.1 on two computers that are running Windows XP. Did the Windows 8.1 compatibility test on both pc's prior to purchase. I reformatted one hard drive and retried the install and received this error message 'NTLDR Missing'

It is an official windows 8.1 full version disc from Microsoft

I am trying to install on the following

Dell Dimension 4300
Intel Pen 4 CPU 1400 MHz
1.40GHz 1.00GB Ram
Win XP Pro Ver. 2002
Seagate Ultra ATA/100 HD 320GB
WD Caviar SE HD 120GB

Dell Dimension E310
Intel Pen 4 CPU 280 GHz
2.79GHz 2.24GB Ram
Win XP Media Center Edition Ver. 2002

After formatting HDs it will only allow me to reinstall Win XP. I will appreciate any help or suggestions thank you in advance for your support.
