Hello,
I've been getting some wonky USB errors. Something about an unknown USB device using power when nothing was connected. (other than mouse and keyboard but I switched em up and nothing changed). It went away after I disabled the unknown device from the USB settings.
Well, last week my PC got stuck. Mouse was not responding and the music stopped playing but my keyboard could still highlight different things on the screen. I pressed the reset button and even before the bios could load I got an error saying something like: "USB device over current status detected will shut down in 15 seconds to prevent damage to the motherboard". Which it did.
And now my power button is unresponsive. I tried all the stuff suggested on Tom's Hardware for that error like unplugging the front panel USB ports, I disassembled everything in my rig and put it back together a few times now. I did not see any pins being wonky or smell any fried plastic which made me think it's the PSU.
I tried the paper clip test thingy on the PSU and it started to run and the current in all the relevant pins seemed on point when using a power supply testing unit (although I'm not 100% sure on that. It seemed okay.)
I tried reseating the CMOS Battery and clearing the CMOS with a jumper. Nothing changed.
I doubt that flashing the BIOS would help which is something I came across while looking for solutions. Although that's for a corrupt BIOS, right?
When holding the power button for a few second a blue LED on the MoBo starts blinking. (https://serving.photos.photobox.com/80736974bf0a9f68785bde95b5853585d9d110afd42a240cc3e70ba7ee109400e06096ed.jpg). It does 9 short and 3 long flickers. I think it did 4 long ones a few times.
Is my mobo fried? I'm starting to think that the blinking light is giving me false hope. I will try to test a PSU on a friend's PC soon to make sure I'm not getting some false positive thing with that paper clip test + power supply testing unit.
Specs:
Windows 7 x64
MSI Mortar B150M
Saphire Nitro+ radeon rx 470 4gb
Kingston fury hyper x 8x2 DDR4
PSU is SilentiumPC Supremo M2 Gold 550W V2
Any thoughts?
