Error trying to clone ssd

I've been trying to clone a Samsung 120GB SSD to another that is 250GB using Samsung Data Migration software. I get an error - Cloning failed. An error occurred while reading the disk. 301001 [0497c9]

I have also tried using macrium reflect free and it failed to write to the new SSD except for a boot partition.

Is there a problem with the source disk. It has WIndows 10 upgrade on it. There are 3 partitions. A system reserved partition, the C partition and a Recovery partition.

What happened when you used MR to make an image of one partition at a time onto external media?

I made a backup image of the drive to an external drive then tried to clone all the partitions to the new SSD via a Sata USB cable but after a few seconds it came up with a write error. I can't remember exactly what else it said. There was only about 500MB on the new SSD when I checked in disk management. IIRC it was a boot partition.
